    1. who: Byrnehurst music wing
    what: prepare for holiday program
    when: holidays
    where: Byrnehurst
why: holiday programs are coming up
    how: practicing songs

    2. The information on the combined concerts distracts the reader from the Byrnehurst choir.

    3. Inverted pyramid – The author probably thought that this was more important information and then put it towards the beginning.

    4. The 5 paragraphs before the ending are non essential but they rounded it off with a fun addition to what the choir will be doing at the concert and how they feel about it.

    5. The instrumental department faces a busy schedule as well. – this fact adds conflict to the story.

In addition to the annual combined holiday concerts, Blazer musicians will present more than 25 special performances for local groups and organizations. This extra information gives a background of what the group will also be doing on that day.

    1. who: Byrnehurts musical groups
what: accept engagements to perform at various functions
    when: throughout the year
    where: Byrnehurst
    why: for donations
how: sponsoring groups generally provide a donation

    1. Who-Byrnehurst music groups
    What-preparing for holiday programs
    Where-Byrnehurst High School
    When-holiday season
    Why-they do it every year
How-various groups perform in different concerts
    2. The reporter probably thought that he/she should just say what is going on and tell the reader how many different concerts are going on and other things that are going on so he/she doesn’t have to explain it later and throughout the article the reporter elaborates on these different events.
    3. A. timeliness to show when the event is going to happen and because it is happening so soon
    B. entertainment factor because the point of these events is to entertain the people
    4. The last two paragraphs are not really needed but they are in the article because they round it out because they add a little extra to the article. The two extra paragraphs explain how busy the students are at this time of year and why people think it is a good idea.
    5. A. Sidebar 1 shows the concert schedule to let people know what who is performing, the name of the performance and when they are performing.
    B. Sidebar 2 shows that donations are always accepted because the multiple music groups have to make money in some way.
    6. Who-Byrnehurst musical groups
    What-Perform at various functions
    Where-In different places
    When-Throughout the Year
Why-So they can provide entertainment and music
    How-By accepting engagements

    1. who -Byrnhurst music wing
    what -holiday program
    when -holidays
    where- byrnhurst
    why- holidays are coming soon
how- by practicing for the event

    2. The burnhurst choir is supposed to be the focus of the article, when info like the others makes the reader lose track
    3. I guess the author thought that info in the beginning of the article was more worth reading because of the inverted pyramid.
    4. The paragraph before the end is less important, but they add humor to it.
    5. the instrumental dept. faces a busy scedule as well…….this shows the conflict in the story

    1. who- byrnehurst music groups
    what- requirements to perform
when- through the whole school year

    1) Who- Blazer musicians
What- Will perform in various holiday programs
Where- Byrnehurst High School and community
    When- months of November/December
Why- because it’s the holidays/annual tradition
How- by practicing and then performing

    2) It was the most important information for the reader to know.
    3) timeliness because the event is coming soon; proximitybecause the event is occuring close by
    4) The last two paragraphs are unnecessary, but they are included because they add a few extra quotes and information.
    5) Sidebar 1 is to get people the information about the shows directly so it’s easier for someone to decide when they want to go. Sidebar 2 is not about the holiday shows so they don’t relate to the overall topic of the article, just the Byrnehurst group.
    6) Who-Byrnehurst musical group
What- can be booked for other events
    Where- Byrnehurst community
    When- ongoing after the holidays
    Why- for performances
    How- contacting them

    What: Rehearsals
    When: Throughout November and December
    Where: Byrnehurst
    Why: Preparing for holiday performances
    How: A busy schedule

    2. The reporter probably chose to include such details because they were the most important.

    3. Timeliness; the performance is coming up.
Proximity; the events are taking place at Byrnehurst.

    4. 2 paragraphs. Even though they are nonessential they round out the story because they provide extra information to support the story.

    5. Sidebar 1: Holiday Concert Schedule; It is more effective as a sidebar because it draws more attention to the all-important dates of the performances.

Sidebar 2: Music to go; More effective as a sidebar because it draws attention to the advertisement.

    6. Who: Byrnehurst Musical Groups
    What: Perform at various functions
    Where: Various functions
    When: Throughout the year
    Why: To pay for expenses

    5. The groups have other events to go to which gives them a busy season and adds stress.

    when: holidays
    where: Byrnehurst
why: holiday programs are coming up
    how: practicing songs

    2. There was a distraction from the byrnehurst choire as a result of them focussing to much on the combined concert.

    3. Inverted pyramid – The author put the more interesting and important facts towards the beginning and towards the end began to get to uninteresting details of the subject.

    4. The second to last paragraph is not necessary, but it adds humor. Therefore, only in the event that they are limited of space then they should delete this paragraph.

    5. “The instramental department is being faced with a busy schedule..” This is adding conflict to the article.

    1. who: Byrnehurts musical groups
what: accept engagements to perform at various functions
    when: throughout the year
    where: Byrnehurst
    why: inorder to obtain donations

    1.Who- Byrnehurst’s musical groups
    What- Have upcoming performances
Where- at Byrnehurst and throughout the community
When- Between November 29 and December 21
    Why- It’s the holiday season.
    How- Many
2.The reporter probably used the seven news values to determine which information had the greatest appeal to readers. He or she would then have placed the most important, general information at the end and the least important information last.
    3. A. Proximity- The concerts take place at the school.
    B. Human Interest- There is going to be a surprise at the concerts.
    4. The last four paragraphs- They summarize the entire story, which is good because it has lots of information and is very lengthy, and also make a wineglass ending.
    5. -Holiday Concert Schedule- It would be boring, long, and repetitive to write the schedule in sentence form.
-Music to Go- it does not relate to the story itself and is not of interest to everyone.
    6. Who- Byrnehurst musical groups
    What- Accept engagements
    Where- Around the community
    When- throughout the school year
Why- To raise money for music and equipment
How- Sponsors usually make a donation or offer an honorarium.

    1)
Who: the vocal and instrumental groups (the concert choir, BeSharp vocal ensemble, Blazer jazz band, orchestra, and chamber groups)
What: will be performing throughout the community and take part in the “Welcome Santa” parade
    Where: Byrnehurst
    When: Saturday November 29th, 21st
    Why: the holiday season
    How:
    2) The article is about the concerts so it makes sense to put the information about what groups and what programs there are.
    3) Proximity, human interest or drama, timeliness, and name recognition.
    4) 4 paragraphs can be cut off at the end. The other paragraphs round out the story because they make it into a wineglass ending and add in more human interest.
    5) The holiday concert schedule and information about donations. The information in the sidebars is not best presented in sentences or the information isn’t really directed towards the general audience.

    1.
    who- Vocal instrumental groups
    what- Holiday shows
    where- Byrnehurst
    when-Holiday season
why- Because it’s the holiday season
    how- practicing the songs

    2. There is a distraction for the reader with the byrnehurst choir.
    3. timeliness because the event is soon and proximity because it is happenign soon
    4. The last sentence would make it a wineglass ending adding interest to the article.
    5. The sidebars are used for the story because it is relating to the story and provides the reader with other information maybe too long or not that important to be said in the story. In sidebar 1 it provides the schedule. In sidebar 2 relates to the Byrnehurst group.
    6.
    who- Byrenhurst musical group
what- other events can be scheduled
    where- byrnehurst community

Who? The concert choir, BeSharp vocal ensemble, Blazer jazz band, and chamber groups

What? Preparation for many different parades and events

    When? Saturday November 29th,21st

    Where? Byrnehurst

    Why? Holiday season

    How?

    2. The journalist was making sure that the readers had background info on what, who and where the events were going to be.

    3. Proximity: occurring near students at Byrnehurst.

Human Interest: There will be a surprise at the event.

    Name recognition: SANTA CLAUSE!

    4. The last 3 paragraphs. This article is a wine glass style, so the other information is really just a little extra for excitement.

    5. The first sidebar gives the Holiday Concert Schedule. If used in sentence form, it wastes space and trees. The second sidebar was about the hiring policy. This only applies to a certain group of people; therefore it is used at the end so that it again, does not waste space in the actual article.

what: will be performing in holiday shows

    2. There is a distraction for the reader with the Byrnehurst choir
    3. Proximity: this is really important and catches the reader’s interest most. This was happening near students at Byrnehurst.
    4. This article has a wine glass style to it. It starts with the most important facts at the beginning and ends with a kind of humorous sentence or one that leaves the reader with a good impression.
    5. The first sidebar in this article gives the schedule of the holiday concert. It is important as a side bar because it attracts more attention and is easier for the readers to see all the times and dates in one place. It is also a lot clearer. The second sidebar in this article relates to the Byrnehurst group but not the article topic as a whole.
    6. who: Byrnehurst musical group
what: can be booked for other events
    where: Byrnehurst community
when: ongoing after the holiday and throughout the year
    why: for the performances

Nearness- The reported is writing an article about Byrenhusrt students in the Byrenhurst news paper. The readers would probably want to read because it has to do with other students in the same school.

    4. The last four paragraphs could be removed from the story. They around out the article my putty a little humour and saying how it is for them in the holiday time of the year.
