I read a story this morning on the internet about Hilary Clinton’s speach at the Democratic Election last night. The article was interesting because:
-It stated quotes that she had said that caught her audiences attention.
-There was a picture of her looking passionate about what she was speaking about.
-There was an opinion quote about how well she did.
-It used easy to read language but was still well written.

One really interesting article that I have read would be a CNN article about Hillary Clinton’s speech at the DNC last night. It was interesting because the topic was so important. It was pivotal for the democratic party to unite under Barack Obama and Hillary’s message was to help with angry Clinton supporters. the article contained segments of the speech, as well as political commentary and a republican rebuttle form John McCain’s campaign. I t was balanced and informative, which made it much more interesting than a biased report.

A really interesting article I have read is ”Tomb of the Unknowns caught in battle”. The story was made interesting because it brought up a variety of different points, such as replacing the memorial would bring it less respect since it would be a replica as well as it isnt getting the respect it deserves now because of the cracks cutting through the ensciption ”Here rests in honored glory an American soldier known but to God”. Both sides of the issue were displayed in an easily understandable format and quoting from several officials strenghtened my interest in reading the article, as well as the photos and video links.

There are many factors that make a story interesting. In my opinion I enjoy stories that:
-are concise and to the point
-contains useful information but not too much
-are descriptive
-is a current event (nothing too random)
-contain something I can relate to
-are exciting but not over-dramatic
-are not too boring

I recently read an article about tropical storm Gustav. It recently flooded Haiti and killed 8 people. What i found interesting about this article is that although the hurricane went down to a tropical storm, it is expected to increase in strength and turn back into a hurricane. I am also interested in the fact that the hurricane may affect my school schedule if it hit’s Florida as a hurricane.

An article must have a great title to catch my attention. Another thing an article should have is something that you didn’t already; something unexpected. The article would also be more interesting if they did not include details that have no relation to the article that I am reading.

I read an article that was very interesting because it dealt with something that happened last week. It was about a women that jumped from a hospital in Santa Cruz on Tuesday after suicidal attempt. She tried to kill herself by cutting her throat but did not succeed. This elderly woman was 55 years old who’s reason for suicide was because she was lonely and a bad economic condition.
This article interested me but at the same time made me sad because there are people who would do anything to live one more day and this woman was giving that up.

I read an article about the Beijing Olympics and how many things were “fake” or staged, like how the girl who sang was actually lip-synching.
It was interesting because:
1) It related to current events.
2) I learned new things by reading it.
3) I felt like I was reading something that people didn’t want me to know.
4) It opened my mind and made me think about other related topics.

It was an article about Obama’s pick for VP. He chose Biden as his running mate. It was an interesting choice, because many hoped that he would choose Hilary Clinton. However, seeking a candidate with the experience he lacked, Biden was an obvious pick. The thing I found especially interesting is that prior to this, Biden had stated that Obama was not qualified to be president. It seems that Biden had forgotten that, however, as he then embraced his new position and attacked McCain for being out of touch with most americans.

Another thing an article should have is something that you didn’t already know; something unexpected. *
The first three sentences are usually very important, because if they are very bland and distasteful than I don’t want to continue reading the article.

Something that makes a story interesting is:
-good opening sentence
-interesting adjetives
-youthful
-fun but doesnt dumb things down
-doesnt give that much bull, gives detail but doesnt give a useless information that has nothing to do with the point of the storty

-The title must have an eye-catching title
and have to do somewhat about Pop culture or polititical feud of a recent time. If not that then something that will appeal to most ages, like Global warming. Doesn’t overflow the article with boring deatils that are not completly neccessary. People also have to be able to relate the story

An interesting article that I have read recently was about the huge sarcophogus at Arlington Cemetery. This article interested me for many reasons:
-The topic was quite interesting, as it described the struggles that an Arlington Tomb has faced battling the elements.
-The article includes photos depicting the tomb and it’s scars.
-The author uses short paragraphs, keeping the reader’s attention.

I read an article a few days ago about what went on behind the scenes at the Olympics. It demonstrated that the good impression the Chinese made with their opening and closing ceremonies was partially an act.
The story was interesting because it made me question something that I had believed to be true. It was thought-provoking, relevant, unique, and revealing.

I read an article about if the food we eat is safe. It described to me the ways our food is put through a process of radiation in order to kill bacteria such as e.coli and salmanella, which are the two main diseases caused by bacteria.
This was interesting to me because:
- people eat their foods without thinking that their food goes through a process of radiation, which can kill you if you get too much of it
- although radiation is bad for you, in this case it benefits a person because it kills bacteria which can also get you sick
- there were 300,000 people sick
- the FDA, which stands for Food and drug administration are in charge of checking our food
- Radiation kills bacteria but not viruses

There are many things that contribute to making articles interesting. I find it interesting when writers present their topics uniquely, like using a quote that makes you stop and think. I also find it interesting when writers have a different perspective from me and present contoversy.

There was this one article about a species of river dolphins becoming extinct. The Baiji, is a small, white, almost blind river dolphin that belonged to the rivers of Yangtze in China in December of 2006. What caught my attention the most of this article was that how can any animal in the 21st century become extinct with all this technology, and knowledge we have.

The article “A Teacher on the Front Line as Faith and Science Clash” was very interesting because it was about something that could personally effect me, so in a way I connected with the situation. If my Biology teacher would have started to give a lesson on evolution, my classmates would not have reacted or had the same feelings as the students in Mr. Campbell’s class because we aren’t as religious, so I was able to read about a different point of view and situation that I could have been in if my classmates and I had different opinions.

Aritcle- “A Teacher on the front line as Faith and Science Clash”
Reading about how the students went from being completely unitnerested in the topic to them being curious about the theory of evolution was compelling.
The article was written in a way that I was able to understand the feelings of Mr. Campbell. I understood his frustration. Being able to relate to the situation in the article helped make it more interesting.
The title of the article caught my attention.
The first few sentences of the story grabbed my attention, I kept on reading. If an article doesn’t, I tend to skip over it.

I recently read an article that I thought was interesting it was about:
Today, wensday August 27 2008 hijackers surrendered to authorities in Libya after releasing all passengers on board.
The Sudanese airliner, with 95 people on board was forced to land in the Sahara desert oasis of Kufrah in Southeastern Libya, after leaving Sudan’s wartorn Darfur region for Khartoum.
The identity of the two hijackers was unclear.
This article was interesting to me because I travel alot and go on many planes, and it shows how dangerous it could be.

I enjoye reading articles that include:
- Detail
- It is intresting to read and i dont get bored of it
- It relates to me
- It relates to what is going on in the world right now and not something from a year ago
- It has noticable title so that it is easy for me to find
- It is for my age group
- And it has a secondary story in it that is humorus or intresting
