Please Do Now:

  1. Come up with a caption for each of the following pictures:
  2. Write a lead for the story of today’s flood.

Today, students will:

  1. Investigate today’s events in groups of 3-4 and write one article per group.  The following quotes are “common quotes” for everyone:

The fire system burst a pipe – due to vandalism – in the top floor of building 2.  Much of the floor and those below are flooded. We have temporarily relocated 10 teachers and their classes into the cafeteria.  Ms. Robins is working on a schedule of where classes will relocate into other classrooms periods 5 and 7… We are extending period 3 until 11 am so the students taking the exams can finish.  For those who were interrupted, please make up the essay at the earliest convenient time.” – Dr. Sidener

“We have serious damage in our new building.  Some vandals stuffed the floor drain in the bathroom with paper towels and vandalized the sprinkler so the pipe burst.  The water flow triggered the fire alarm.  We have significant damage in the new building on floors 3 and 2. There was 3 to 4 inches of dirty water in the halls and classrooms. It has seeped through the walls and ceilings to the floors below. Drywall and insulation is soaked with the dirty water, ceiling tiles are also damaged.  Our custodial staff, along with help from Nautilus, North Beach and Feinberg are removing the water. Stanley Steemer has been called and Serve Pro is here as well. There is also a crew of 8 from Plant Operations. I hope that some of the classrooms will be habitable tomorrow. You will have dehumidifiers in your rooms – which can be noisy – but please allow them to run. I am concerned that this seepage will plant the seeds of mildew and mold infestation which will plague us for many years to come.” – Dr. Sidener

“BEGINNING TODAY, STUDENTS FOUND IN THE HALLS WITHOUT A LEGITIMATE HALL PASS WILL BE SENT HOME ON OUTDOOR SUSPENSION!!” – Ed Cobin

Tonight’s homework is:

  1. Finish planners by the beginning of class Friday.
  2. Finish first drafts by the end of class Friday.
