If I were to write this story for the beachcomber, i would probably write it in the angle of students who plan to attend UF.
    People i would interview:
    1-UF professor
2- Two Beach High Students that will attend UF
3-Previous Beach High students that attend UF.

    I would ask…
-How they feel about the situation
-How they think it will affect them
-How it will affect the school and how good/bad it is.

The university of Florida is one many Beach High students will be attending this coming year and have attended previous years and its governing body unanimously approved $47 million in budget cuts Wednesday that will result in reducing enrollment and laying off some faculty.

I would concentrate on the students’ pint of view. What activities are being affected and such.

    1. President Of the Board:
What activities will be affected by this cut?
How did you choose where to cut funding?
    How have students reacted?
    2. Student council President (if there is one)
How do you feel about these cuts?
    Will there be any protests?
What activities will be affected the most?
3.Some Faculty (maybe sponsores of clubs)
How have the students reacted to this cut?
    What have they said?
Howe will your club be affected?

LEAD: In UM, further budget cuts have cause a decrease in student enrollment and a lsy off of staff.

    1. If I were to write this story for the Beachcomber, my angle would be to show how this budget cost will affect students and faculty of Gainesville University.
    2. I would interview the director/principal/ president of university: Q: What are your reactions to this budget cost? Do you agree with the decision? What are your thoughts? Why did they cut so much money out? Explain. The next person I would interview is a professor. Q. Do you think professors are going to leave if they do not see a raise? The third person I would interview is a student there. What do you think about the cut? How do you think it is going to affect applicants?
    3. The University of Gainesville has recently been approved of a 47 million in budget costs with serious consequences such as faculty layoff and reducing enrollment.

The angle that I would use for this article would be that of an administrator or educator.
4 people that I would interview for this article are
    - a relatively new teacher
(How long have you been there?
How do you think that the cuts will affect you?
Would you consider leaving if you didnt get a raise after two years?)
    - a teacher that has been there for many years.
(How long have you been working at UF?
How do the budget cuts affect you?
How do you feel about the discontinuation of some programs?)

    - person from the governing body
(What did you base your decision on?
What are future plans for budgeting?
How do you think this will affect students education?)
    - person from the board of trustees
( Why did you approve of the budget cut plan?
What changes did you feel would be needed?
What will be an effect of this budget cut?)

Members of the Board of Trustees approved a $47 million budget cut of the University of Florida for upcoming year.

i would do this in a teacher/staff angle considering how staff people are being fired and students are forced to leave because of staff cuts and then teachers dont have a job so teachers would be conserned

    school board head guy
    why do this?
how will u rmake that mula?!?
    what about the fired people?

    teachers
    do you agree?
    how will u manage without a job/students?
    would you like a snickers?

    staff
    where shall you work?
    how big was your pay?
are you mad at the board?

    students
how do you feel about gettin kicked out of your school for the greedyness of the school board?
    where will you go study?
what about your scholarships or what about the classes that you paid for?

If I were to write the lead for this story, I would concentrate on making this UF article more focused on prospective studets. I would discuss how this will affect admissions, how it will affect your college life, and if this affects the education at all.

    I would need to interview:
    1. President of the University
    2. Dr. Page or a CAP advisor
    3. Prospective students
    4. Students who already went to UF
    5. Students at UF
    6. Faculty at the University

The largest public university in Florida, University of Florida, is cutting its budget by $47 million dollars this year and will greatly affect…(insert what it will affect)

The angle I would use if this story was for the Beachcomber would be from the students.
    4 people to interview:
    -2 Teacher who attended UF
-2 students who will attend UF.
    3 Q’s i would ask:
-What’s your opinion on the budget cut?
-How do you think this will affect you?
-Do you think this situation will also affect the school as a whole?
    Lead:
The University of Florida have made budget cuts on Wednesday which is now resulting in underenrollment and a laying off of faculty and staff members.

If I were writing this article for the Beachcomber, I would write the news story from a student’s angle. Four people that I would interview are:

    -Students attending the school
-Teachers in the areas that will have their budgets cut off
    -Chairman of the school
    - new teachers

    3 questions:

1-Are you for or against the budget cut and why is that so?
2-How do you think that the budget cut will affect your educational possibilities as a student?
3-Would you consider transferring due to the budget cut?

1-How do you think that the budget cut will affect your program/area?
2- Have you done anything to prevent this plan to be put into action?
3-Would you consider transferring to another university because of this plan?

1- How did you go about the deciding on the budget-cut plan? What considerations did you take in the process?
2-Overall, how do you believe this will affect the university?
3-Where there any other options before deciding to this?

1-How do you think the budget cut will limit your student’s educations?
2-Would you consider transferring if you did not receive your raise within 2 years?
3-How will you cope with all the limitations?

    hello,
angle of beach story would be basicly saying how getting into UF is going to be twice as competeive and might not even the best school to go to in the end.
    teh head of teh school
a student whos been there for 4 years and can see change
a student that wanted to go to UF
    a teacher who was fired

    student whos been there
what has been a major change?
How amny if any of your professors have been layed off?
What will be a big change?

    person in charge of school
how many professors have been layed off?
Do you think people will be less intererested in coming here?
    Why?

    sorry couldnt finish…..=(

Amalia messed up and possibly posted my comment earlier! Meanie!

I would consider the point of the UF trustees.

    President Bernie Machen:
Why are you laying off these faculty members?
What caused you to make this decision?
Why the $5.9 million reduction to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences?

Chairman of the board, Dianna Morgan:
Do you agree with the decision of laying off faculty members?
What is your view of the budget reduction that would result in faculty departures after two years without any raises?
    Why the economic cuts?

    Another random chairman:
Do you agree with the decision of laying off faculty members?
What is your view of the budget reduction that would result in faculty departures after two years without any raises?
    Why the economic cuts?

    Trustee Steven Scott:
What problem do you want to be addressed at the June meeting of the board?
Do you fear that the faculty might leave to go to another university?
    Are these changes really necessary?

  • mariap2011 // May 15, 2008 at 5:14 pm | Reply

    - I would use the angle of showing how it would affect the school by talking to teachers and administrators.

    - Dean of the school: Why are these cuts being made? How do you expect them to impact the school? Do you truly believe this is the best choice?
-Any teachers being fired: How long have you worked here? Do you believe these cuts were necessary? What are you going to do?
-Incoming freshmen that didn’t get in: How do you feel about being rejected? Do you agree with the cuts? What other colleges are you hoping to get into?
-Students that are getting departments cut off:
What do you think the departments will be like now? How do you feel about the cuts? Do you feel that the school kept students in mind when making this decision?

-University of Florida makes budget cuts that affect thousands.

I would write from an angle of the people who got laid off. If they had kids then I could talk to them to.

The chairman- 1.Would the budget cuts hurt student’s education?

A empoye still working- 1. Are you afraid of losing your job?

A fired employe- 1. what will you do for a living now?

The dean of the school 1.Would the budget cuts hurt student’s education?

If I were to write this story for The Beachcomber, I would write it from a prospective student’s point of view, interviewing seniors who have gotten accepted and plan on attending UF.

I would interview a sophomore and junior student at UF, a Beach High senior who has been accepted and will attend UF, a UF teacher who has been there 20+ years, and who ever supervises the education department of Florida.

UF $47 million budget cut reduces enrollment by 1000 a year for four years.
