The press release is exaggerated and focused on promoting the show. It is not as in-depth as the news piece and it also promotes further events that MTv is sponsoring. The News piece uses personal references to add to the posistivity of the article. Both, though, pin the shown as dramatic and reccomend in to people.

While the first article is strictly information (all on the good side of course), the second one hold a lot of personal involvement in part of the author. Basically… Although both articles are biased, the press release is more detached than the other one.
It is obvious that the press release will only have good things to say about the show, but the article of the sun sentinel strictly speaks well of the show also.

    hello,

there are alot differences between these article asfar as the way there written the press release is just spewing pure synponsis and the second is kind of backaroundish and more opinony

The articles both deal with the same idea of promoting the show. However, the MTV press release is a bit over the top making it seem like this reality show filled with drama. On the other hand the MTV press release also talks about the show in a positive light, as does the sun sentinel article. Overall, the sun sentinel article was more realistic but not as good.

The press release and the article both portrayed the show as great and just what teens today need as opposed to the barbie plastic girls they always see. The press release seemed to sugar coat the whole show making it seem perfect which to some people’s taste might seem fake. The article seemed well researched but the writer kept including themselves in it which im not sure they should have.

The obvious differences between the two pieces is that one was released by MTV, stating every aspect of the show, whereas the Sun Sentinal wrote a review on the show, and listed its positive attributes. Suprisingly, for an article, there wasn’t an opposite opinion of the show, and there weren’t any quotes (I know that it is a “featury” article, but she could’ve included quotes from students tired of “gossipy and jock” drama).
A no-no: the writer included herself in the story, but I do think that it fit the purpose well in the story. It reached out to the author and it wasn’t like it was a story reporting on a shooting in Miami, it was a light-hearted article telling us (the readers) to watch the show.
The article was just the right lenght to cover all the bases, but the press release went far more in-depth about the show itself, not why its good (what the Sentinal did.)
I’m totally going to watch the show.

The press release and the sun sentinel can be compared and contrasted. They are alike because both of them describe “The Paper”. They are also biased. Also both of them are some what positive. The press release also differs from the article. The press release is positive and exciting to read. However, the article is not very good. The press release goes into depth but the article – not really. The articel also has a personal connection, which to me does not seem professional.

the first article is more like a backbone and the second article shows more detail like the staff lady Rhonda and how she has to keep things in oreder and how their are some rivalries

  • arielaz2009 // April 11, 2008 at 5:19 pm

The press release is more detailed and written persuasively as an advertisement for the show, complete with character descriptions and plot snippets.

The article is more so an informative review with the writers’ personal opinions and anecdotes based on the theme.

Knowing the purpose of the press release, it is obvious that MTV would talk well of their new series. This makes the writing more biased right off the bat. Ofc ourse, they want good articles written about the series, so they wouldn’t put the bad stff out there. In the article, it is easy to tell that the author is not exactly professional; she includes her opinion which no one honestly cares about. The article is not exactly biased, just inclusive of the authors opinion, even though it is not an opinion piece.

Both articles describes the new tv show “The Paper” describing the characters and the plot of the series.
In the MTV Press, the article seemed more professional and real “newspaper-y” with at least one quote on the people in the show and based all on info.
In the sunsentinel article, the author included oneself in it, had no quotes and made the article seem more laid-back

In my opinion, both articles sound very good, but I believe they have bad qualities in them. The Sun Sentinel piece sounds as if someone is talking to me, expressing their ideas and like it feels sort of like a conversation, while the other piece MTV is very factual (”newsie”). Both have this thing of promoting “The Paper” and while Sun Sentinel places their recommendation at the end, MTV places it in the middle. Their journalistic style is somewhat alright, they sort of promote the show, and have very good descriptions of it.
