The author “shows” something about the profile subject by:
1. Describing what the subject looked like on stage.
2. By describing the way he dresses.
3. By describing the websites that he created.
The author tells something about the subject when he:
1. Retells the story of Harvard Connection
2. When he gives the facts on who wants to buy Faceebook
3. When he gives a biography of the subject.
I think the writer may dislike the subject because he describes the subject as having an attitude that borders being obnoxious.
I don’t really think it is very neutral because the writer describes things and the subject in a way that you can tell that they may not like the subject too much.

Find 3 examples of when the author “shows” something about the profile subject.
He tells about the subjects acheivements, personality and “spunk” but never really comes to term with the exact actions
Find 3 examples of when the author “tells” something about the profile subject.
He tells the reader his acheivements, dissapointments, personality traits and other important things
What do you think the author’s opinion is of the profile subject?
I think the author views the profile subject as a succesful individual with a couple of shady aspects here and there
How do you know?
The lead in the story:
Harvard dropout Mark Zuckerberg created one of the most trafficked sites on the Web and became a paper billionaire as a result. But ongoing lawsuits suggest that Facebook’s origins are murkier than Zuckerberg would like to admit. Is the man many are calling Harvard’s next Bill Gates telling the truth?
any more proof?
Is this article objective or biased? How do you know?
I would say this article is pretty subjective. it provides information, detail, and character but it is not opinionated towards anything

1. Behind him, a slick slideshow cues up on a big screen
2. A few seconds later, as Zuckerberg—all 5’8”, 150 pounds, and 23 years of him—launches into his presentation, his voice cracks.
3.two Harvard students side-by-side and asked users to click on the one they considered more attractive.
1.In December 2002, Narendra told the Winklevosses of his vision for an online social network for college students
2.Zuckerberg also substantiated much of what the plaintiffs have said with respect to the Harvard Connection concept
3.Zuckerberg enlisted several Harvard roommates and friends to help with Facebook.
I think that the author believes that Zuckerberg knew that Facebook was very like Harvard Connection and he probably stole the idea. you can tell by the quotes that he uses, like the plaintiffs and such.
it subjective because there is no opinion

This comment is by Amanda and Alessia:
“Decked out in his geek uniform of jeans, Adidas sandals, a T-shirt, and a North Face fleece” (SHOW)
“Zuckerberg owns 20 percent of Facebook, a $3-billion stake. ” (SHOW)
“MySpace looks like Times Square at night.” (SHOW)
“They once rowed a crew race while wearing button-down shirts and ties. ” (SHOW)
“Their style is more prepster than geek” (TELL)
“…showed an early interest in computer programming.” (TELL)
This article is subtly biased. It goes against Zuckerberg by having stronger opinionated quotes against him and in favor of the plaintiffs.
It doesnt give an equal chance for Zuckerberg’s side of the story although it does give reference to it.

One more tell..
“Zuckerberg enlisted several Harvard roommates and friends to help with Facebook.”

2).He for soem reason talks about how geeky they dress and look.
3).Also how he showed how he looked on stage and how he ws acting
3 examples of when the author “tells” something about the profile subject:
1).He tells how the website came to be.

nataliea2011 // February 26, 2008 at 6:40 pm |
the article is biased because its written by someone who goes to harvard
3 examples of where the author shows is when he’s describing Zuckerberg speaking at the begining, when the author describes when Zuckerberg was in 6th grade, and last but not least is when
3 examples
inesm2011 // February 26, 2008 at 6:41 pm |
Show:
1) “Geeky” dressing style
2) sneaky ways that Zuckerberg has
3) feelings before delivering speech
Tell
1)”Facts” about the trial
2) opinions of Winklevoss and other partners
3)biography
I think that the author’s opinion of the profile subject is that he is against him in the case and he believes he is sneaky, because the article is biased against him and there is an abundance of quotes calling him dishonest. Half of the article is an attempt to prove him a fraud, and the author should remember that he is not the lawayer or the jury but merely a narrator. “he is sometimes smug and often comes across as brash” this quote perfectly depicts his biased opinion.

3 shows:
- where he is and how the stage looks “…and on stage at the San Francisco Design Center, Mark Zuckerberg stares out at an audience of 800 software developers and looks terrified. Loud techno music pulses. Behind him, a slick slideshow cues up on a big screen.”
- how he dresses “Decked out in his geek uniform of jeans, Adidas sandals, a T-shirt, and a North Face fleece…”
- His opersonality “He has a dry, mischievous sense of humor that sometimes verges on obnoxious.”
3 tells:
-
The author does not like the subject.
yes it is biased…because the author describes the subject’s serious attitude and has many quotes from other people about the subject that are negative.
“‘I don’t know if Mark copied things intentionally or it’s just the most amazing coincidence of all time, but I know he’s dishonest,” Greenspan says. “I’ve seen him lie.’”

Showing :
“Zuckerberg—all 5’8”, 150 pounds, and 23 years of him—launches into his presentation, his voice cracks.”
“ The craggy, Neanderthal-esque” twosome, as the Crimson described them, studied economics.”
“Within two weeks, that number had swelled to 4,000; after a month, 10,000; by June, 100,000.”
Tells:
The young man often hailed as the next Bill Gates is onstage to announce the latest advance in Facebook
Once only open to students, Facebook opened its doors to the world late last year, allowing anyone to sign up.
Lawyers for ConnectU have successfully pushed to recover Zuckerberg’s original source code for Facebook, arguing that it will show him guilty of copyright infringement.
I think the author is supporting the other three guys instead of Zuckerberg. He provides a lot of detail to support the article. The article to me seems objective. The way he presents Mark is negative.
joselyng2010 // February 26, 2008 at 7:15 pm |
****I made a mistake I thought being objective mean like choosing sides. I NOW realize that he was being biase. To me he presents mark to be negative and jerky.
oscart2007 // February 26, 2008 at 7:25 pm |
Shows
1.) When the stage at a convention is decribed
2.) Explains what Facebook is
3.) What Mark likes to wear
The Artical is extreamely biased. It supports the prep boys and only talk negativly talks about Mark
