A Few Good Men…

October 2, 2007 · 18 Comments

Many of you did not complete the homework assignment due today.  Your grade will not be happy!   For those of you who got the job done under difficult circumstances, today’s lesson is for you…

 Please Do Now:

What, if anything, do you know about Richard Nixon?  What do you know about Watergate, and do the names Woodward and Bernstein mean anything to you?  Submit your thoughts as a comment to this post.

Today, students will:

  1. View excerpts from the film All the President’s Men
  2. Keep a journal of good reporting techniques you can learn by following the craft of Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein.  What do they do in the film that any good journalist can try to emulate?  Post your thoughts to your blog tonight.
  3. Compare and contrast (LA.A.2.2.7) the newsroom of The Washington Post to our newsroom at The Beachcomber.  How is news gathered, covered, written up, reviewed, edited and finally published at these two publications?  Post your thoughts to your blog tonight.

Tonight’s homework is:

  1. Complete a “News Planner” form on your article assignment and post it to your blog.
  2. If you don’t have an assignment, it if because you failed to complete your homework over the weekend.  Get an assignment from me at the newspaper meeting after school before you fall further behind.
