Please Do Now:

  1. Review your “Interview Planner” forms for Dr. Sidener if you plan on asking her questions today.  Prioritize your top 3 questions in the order you expect to ask them, and explain why these are the most important questions for your article.  Think about the main idea and purpose for your article as you select questions.  Submit your top 3 questions and explanation as a comment to this post.
  2. If you hadn’t planned on asking Dr. Sidener any questions, develop one on the spot right now to ask her, and explain how that question fits in with your story.  Remember, a good journalist never passes on a chance to ask a question to someone in power.  Submit your question and explanation as a comment to this post.

Today, students will:

  1. Discuss main idea and purpose with regards to preparing questions for an interview (LA.A.2.4.1, LA.A.2.4.5).
  2. Hold a press conference with Dr. Sidener.
  3. Complete “News and Features” prewrite forms for their articles.  (LA.B.1.4) Post them to your blogs.
  4. Begin an “Interview Notes and Quotes” form if they plan on quoting Dr. Sidener.  Post it to your blog.

Tonight’s homework is:

  1. All “Interview Notes and Quotes” forms are due Tuesday.  You can continue to interview people after this date, but make sure what you have is posted to your blog.
  2. All “News and Features Prewrite” forms are due on your blogs Tuesday.  There are no exceptions to this deadline.
  3. Completed article first drafts are due on your blogs by Thursday.  There are absolutely no exceptions to this deadline!  Phone calls will be made if I do not receive a first draft.

In your experience how would you say that the incoming freshmen differ from our departing seniors?

    EXPLANATION:
My article is based on intellectual growth differences between people who are in middle school , those who are in highschool and those who have already graduated

1.” Have any teachers approached you and commented on the AC in direct accordance to student behavior or attention?”
This is a crucial fact that gives the reader an idea of what the teachers observe and what the principal observes on the kids’ behavior.

2.”The students are saying that the AC breaks fequently. What is you opinion on the rate that the AC breaks?”
I need her opinion on this to present the differing opinions in the school (student, teacher and administration)

3.”What percentage of the budget is dedicated to classroom maintenance?”
This is my most important question since I need the percentage or the amount ,if possible, to forma complete idea int he article.

-Why doesn’t our school have enough resources for their ESE program?
-What can we do to obtain more funds?

(my question fits my story because they closed an ESE gifted course this week because of lack of funds.)

Given the fact that you are new to our school, do you believe that traditions such as homecoming will change this year, and if so, how will they be affected?

This is the one question that I would ask Dr. Sidener, because my article is about homecoming and how it will be this year.

When? When do you think the new Building is going to be done?
I want to make a poll of the student body and see when the new building is going to be done and compare it to Dr. Sideners answer.
How? How might this changed affect our school?
I’m asking students and teachers how they feel about the construction of this new addition to our school. I would like to hear her response!
Who? Who are the teachers that are going to move into the new building? List.
This is to make plans clear of who is going to move into the new building.

“What was your opinion on kids eating lunch upstairs?” i ask this question so that i am able to either simply write down what she says or if she answers with something about security then i will follow up with “If it is a means of security why not add some upstairs” (instead of guarding the stairs they guard upstairs) or garbage then “why not add trash cans” (only 2 as far as i remember). “students are packed downstairs not all have personal space hard to go from place to place students hurt in crowds what will you do?” and “if students were to be allowed back upstairs how would you like them to behave?”

    Dr. Sidener

#1 – As you know our school has faced problems with graffiti, would you ever consider allowing a school spirit mural to be painted in graffiti on a wall in one of our hallways?

this question relates to my aticle because the main idea is to propose a graffiti mural in one of our walls.

#2- Would you say that all types of graffiti artwork is wrong?

This will show her thoughts or opinions on graffiti

#3- By doing this mural do you think this will raise school spirit?

This will show her opinion on the school mural

As far as you know, when is the new MBSH building giong to be finished?
If she says December….(A Construction Foreman at the site has said that it will definetely not be done by December. Do you have to say anything about that considering that the construction crew is not allowed to work on sundays or on holidays?)

I think this question is important, because the main goal of my article is to present a date for the completion of the MBSH building based on different opinions of people in power. This question answers to those specifications, and it also presents a controversy (??).

What classes are moving into the new building? How exactly will everything be moved?

This question is important because it determines what will happen after the building is finished.

Do you have a plan of action in case the building is not finished?

This question prepares us for what will happen if the building is not finished.

What caused the new dress code policy at Beach High?
Does it correlate with FCAT scores?
How will the new dress code, behavioural, and technology rules affect the school’s FCAT scores? And how does it change the environment of our classrooms?

  • blancaj2011j // September 14, 2007 at 5:11 pm | Reply

    1. (#2 Priority): Do you believe the banning of cellphones on this campus will better our FCAT Scores? NRT Scores? SSS? SAT? PSAT? AP? Why?: Ask a question that is easy to answer. This deals with the effect on the banning cellphones in this school.
    2. (#1 Priority): In the homelearning planner under cell phone etiquette it says we can use our phones before 7:30 a.m. and after 2:30 p.m. Why is it that the faculty and staff of this school if they see a phone during this time they confiscate our cellphones even if the the rule says this?
Why?: Trick question. Deals with the confiscation of cell phones and even during this free time.
    3. Are teachers, faculty, and staff an exception to this rule?
Why?: We want to know who doesn’t have to follow the rules.

I would ask her what the school’s standing is on gay acceptance whether it be with students or teachers?

  • alessiap2011 // September 14, 2007 at 5:39 pm | Reply

    Questions for Dr. Sidener:
    1) What is your plan to help our high school improve it’s FCAT scores? This question will help outline Dr. Sideners plan for this school. It will give the students a better understanding of how Dr. Sidener plans to help our school.

    2) What do you expect of students and their involvement in school? This question will show students what they need to be working on and how high the bar has been raised compared to previous years.

    3) You are raising our school pride substantially. How do you think that this pride will help our FCAT scores and academics? This will show our school why Dr. Sidener has been raising the school pride and trying to get students more excited about… school!
