Mr. Weiss – Journalism I – Faculty Advisor

Instructions…

OK kids so here’s the plan:

I want you to write two letters today.  One you will address to me, and one you will address to yourself with the school’s return address.

  1. The first letter is your letter of intent, if you intend to return next year for Journalism II.  I want you to explain to me what job you might be interested in, and why you are uniquely qualified for this job.  Please attach samples of your best work that show why I should select you.  If you are requesting an editorial position, please also describe a “backup plan” as to what you would like to do if you are not selected.  Possible jobs include, but are not limited to: section editor, business manager, staff writer, photographer, videographer (new), web editor, graphic design, layout.  If you can think of a job that is not listed here, describe it!  Make me an offer I can’t refuse…  Please address your letter to me in professional language, place it in a white envelope, write my name on it, and turn it in to Ms Sevillanos.
  2. I want you to write a letter to yourself that expresses your goals for next year.  They can be personal goals (go out on a date with so and so), school goals (earn an B in Precalculus), or goals in Journalism class (get two articles published in the paper / become Features Editor / etc.).  Please address the letter to your home address, and make my name and the school’s address (2231 Prairie Ave) the return address.  Give it to Ms. Sevillanos.  I promise I will never open the envelope once you seal it, so feel free to write confidential information.  I will mail the letters to you sometime next year.

That’s it!  Have a great weekend and make sure to come to class Tuesday – I promise we’ll do something fun.

AP day

May 8, 2009 · 1 Comment

Hi guys I am posting from my phone because I am proctoring the European history AP exam this afternoon. Your only assignment is to make sure your presentations are finished and polished on Tuesday. Make sure you follow the guidelines from last class’s post (notice proper use of apostrophe) and don’t be afraid to seek additional poll data, or other information you can use about Miami beach online.

Have a great weekend – see you Tuesday!
